2007 Season Sees Successful End 5/15/07--- Starting in the fall with a cross-country team that finished 21st at NCAA Division III Nationals, the Lynx had a strong season that saw 4 indoor school records fall in the 400 meters, mile, 3000 meter run and shot put. During the outdoor season, the men moved up two spots to finish fourth in SCAC, with the help of Freshman Greg Cook, who was the third highest scorer in the meet. Also in the spring season, Junior Alex Mahoney dipped under 15 minutes in the 5,000 meter run to break the school record. 2007 top performances.

Men's team finishes 4th at SCAC Championships 4/29/07--- The men's team improved two spots upon last year to finish in fourth place at the conference meet in San Antonio, Texas. Freshman Greg Cook (St.John's/Bellaire,TX) led the way finishing 1st in the triple jump, 2nd in the javelin, and 3rd in the 400 meter dash. Cook had the second most points at the meet with 25. Sophomore Larry Hurd (Bartlett/Bartlett,TN) also won an individual title in the discus throw. Middle Distance Runners Shine at Vanderbilt Invitational 4/21/07--- Sophomore Steele French (Milton/Alpharetta,GA) led the men with a Friday night/Saturday double in the 1,500 and 800 meter runs, running times of 4:07.62 and 1:58.90. In the 400 meter hurdles, Freshman Anson Purdy (Oratory/Westfield,NJ) also set a personal best with a time of 57.27 seconds. Cook Throws Impressive Javelin at Ole Miss 04/14/07---Freshman Greg Cook (St.John's/Bellaire,TX) started the day off for the Lynx in impressive fashion with a launch of 54.58 meters (179'1) in the javelin. His throw was good enough for 3rd place on the day. Junior Will Pitts (Country Day/Charlotte,NC) finished in 7th place with a throw of 47.87 meters (157'1). Limited Squad Competes at Ole Miss 4/07/07--- The Rhodes distance runners and throwers attended the Ole Miss invitational over Easter break. They were led by Sophomore Steele French and Junior Alex Mahoney running 4:10 and 4:11 for the 1,500 meter run. Men Set Several Personal Bests at Home Meet 3/17/07--- Rhodes performed well in their second meet of the season at the Lynx Invitational. In the 1,500 meter run, Junior Alex Mahoney finished 3rd in a time of 4:05.11, while Sophomore Steele French was right on his heels in a time of 4:07.63; both set personal bests. Junior Dave Huntzinger also ran a career best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing 2nd in a time of 10:05. Cook and Moye Jump at Sewanee 2/24/07--- Freshman Greg Cook (St.John's/Bellaire,TX) made the finals in the triple jump with a mark of 12.80 (42'), finishing in 6th place. Freshman Jeremy Moye (McCallie/Ooltewah,TN) also finished in 6th place in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.35m (10'11.75). Rhodes Track Competes at Depauw Invitational 2/17/07--- During the second day of a two-meet weekend for the Lynx, the men had several high finishes and set many personal bests. Junior Will Pitts (Country Day/Charlotte,NC) led the field events with a 2nd place finish in the high jump in a leap of 1.83m (6'). Despite resting many distance runners, Junior Dave Huntzinger (Maclay/Tallahassee,FL) led the way in the 3,000 meters finishing in a time of 9:16.77. More Personal Bests, Records at Valentine Invitational 2/10/07--- Only three men competed at the Middle Tennesse Valentine Invitational, all setting new personal records on the track. The group was led by Junior Alex Mahoney (New Trier/Winnetka,IL) finishing 4th in the mile with a new school record of 4:25.13. In the 400 meter dash, Freshman Anson Purdy ran 53.17 (Oratory/Westfield,NJ), while Greg Cook ran 52.41 (St. John's/Bellaire,TX) both setting personal bests. Two Indoor School Records Broken; Led by Warth in the Mile 1/27/07---The men’s track and field team competed for the first time this season as a full squad. The eclectic Lynx excelled in several events on the track and in the field. The distance runners were back in action for the first time this season, making their presence felt in the mile, with Sophomore Lucas Warth (Ames/Ames,IA) breaking the indoor school record in a time of 4:28.59. Partial Squad of Men Compete at Southern Illinois 1/20/07--- With a long layoff since their first meet, the Lynx were back in action at the 2007 Saluki Booster meet in Carbondale, Illinois. Only a partial squad of four sprinters competed at this primarily Division I meet. The best performance of the day was in the triple jump by Freshman Greg Cook (St. John's/Bellaire, TX) with a mark of 13.00 meters (42 feet, 8 inches), his personal best indoors. Dardenne Selected as Rhodes Track Athlete of the Week 12/06/06---As selected by the coaching staff, Freshman Cory Dardenne (Northeast Christian/Kingwood,TX) was selected as male runner of the week. The Arkansas State Kickoff Klassic hosted fierce compeition and 8 NCAA Division I teams. Competing in four events, Dardenne ran 6.91 in the 55 meter dash and 23.88 in the 200 meter dash. Fighting the tough indoor turns in the 200 meters, he had the third best performance for the Lynx in the last 7 years. Additionally, he stepped up to run the 4x400 for the first time ever, splitting 53.6.
Pitts Establishes New School Record at Arkansas State 12/02/06---Junior Will Pitts (Country Day/Charlotte,NC) established a new school record in the Heptathlon at the Arkansas Kickoff Klassic this weekend. With a total of 3774 points, Pitts completed his first multievent of his career.
