Partial Squad Competes at Ole Miss

Freshman Cybil Covic led the distance runners at Ole Miss with a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:40. The women also had a few athletes compete in the 1,500 meter run. Senior Courtney Cockerell finished with a time of 5:21, while Freshman Kate Scherer ran a time of 5:23. Close behind them was Junior Nici Thomas in a time of 5:31.
The men also had good performances in the 1,500 meter run. Finishing in 6th place was Sophomore Steele French in a time of 4:10. Right on his heels was Junior Alex Mahoney with a time of 4:11. Junior Dave Huntzinger ran 4:24 in the 1,500 meters, while Senior Scott Barrows ran a time of 4:27.
Also on the track, two women broke 60 seconds for the Lynx in the 400 meter dash. Senior Elizabeth Erny led the way in a time of 59.65, while Freshman Julia Goss returning from injury ran a 59.94. On the men's side, hurdler and vaulter Freshman Jeremy Moye ran his first 100 and 200 meter dash of the season, running 11.92 and 24.56.
In the field events, Sophomore Larry Hurd saw consistent marks with throws of 41.46m. (136') in the discus, finishing 6th and 13.49m. (44'3) finishing 9th in the shot put. In the women's triple, Sophomore Annie Bell finished in the top 6 with a jump of 10.97m. (36'). Bell also fininshed 9th in the long jump, while Goss finished 6th with her leap of 5.04m. (16'6).
Rhodes will return to Ole Miss next weekend with its full squad, before traveling to Vanderbilt and the SCAC conference meet in San Antonio, Texas the following weekends.
