Cook Throws Strong Javelin at Ole Miss
04/14/07
Freshman Greg Cook (St.John's/Bellaire,TX) started the day off for the Lynx in impressive fashion with a launch of 54.58 meters (179'1) in the javelin. His throw was good enough for second place on the day and is only a couple meters away from an NCAA qualifying mark. Junior Will Pitts (Country Day/Charlotte,NC) finished in 7th place with a throw of 47.87 meters (157'1). Due to an official's error, Pitts did not make the field of 9 finalists, losing the chance to better his mark with his last three throws. In addition to the javelin, Pitts finished 6th in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters (6'1).
On the track, Rhodes ran well in the barrier races. Freshman Anson Purdy (Oratory/Westfield,NJ) set a new lifetime personal best in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.37, finishing in 7th place. Freshman Jeremy Moye (McCallie/Ooltewah,TN) and Sophomore Christian Dewhurst (Episcopal/Bellaire,TX) also saw a second improvement in their personal bests running times of 61.70 and 61.71.
Junior Dave Huntzinger (Maclay/Tallahassee,FL) led the Rhodes men in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing in 4th place with a time of 10:26.28. Crossing the line just behind him was Sophomore Mark Handelman (Whitman/Bethesda,MD). In his first race back from a long injury Handelman finished in 5th place with a time of 10:31.23. Also running the steeplechase for the Lynx was Freshman Colin Johnson (Aledo/Aledo,TX) finishing in 7th place with a time of 11:22.62.
