Rhodes Men's Soccer lose tough one to Delta State, 2-1
9/17/06...

After not scoring a goal in over 300 minutes, the Rhodes men were willing to try something different to score. After battling against a quality Division II opponent on Thursday night, the Lynx knew that it would be another hard fought game. With a different formation than the one used in the three previous games, the Lynx were putting some pressure on the other team’s defense for a change. The Lynx did just that in the first half, getting several shots off but still unable to find the net. The half ended without either team scoring, with Delta State also creating a few scoring chances, but the Lynx defense were able to come away without any real threat.

Opening the second half, the Lynx were still having problems creating good scoring chances until in the 63 rd minute Delta State forward Christopher Lyles scored on a header from a free kick taken by midfielder Shane Brown. With the Lynx down, it took just over three minutes after Delta State’s goal for the Lynx to respond with sophomore forward Jay Carpenter’s first goal of the year off a cross from sophomore midfielder Patrick Deveau. Delta State responded, however, in the 75 th minute with midfielder Robert Knight netting the game-winner. Goalkeeper Alex Margolin went the distance in goal and ended with four saves. The Lynx kick off SCAC conference play this upcoming weekend as they travel to San Antonio, TX to take on Trinity University on Friday, September 22 at 6:00 pm. Then they travel up to Georgetown, TX to play Southwestern University on Sunday, September 24 at 11:00 am.
