CBU defeats Rhodes Men's Soccer 5-0

The Lynx came out on Thursday night against a Division II opponent that they knew would give them a tough battle. But after a strong opening schedule, the men were better equipped to handle the game. After playing a very similar team in terms of being aggressive and attacking in Washington University (MO), the Lynx opened up the first half creating some nice combinations up top and created a couple of scoring chances. CBU came right back and continually got behind the defense, putting in cross after cross, but the Lynx were able to handle and defensive pressure much like they did against Wash U. It wasn't until the 31st minute that anybody was able to find the net. Buccaneer forward Joshua Menard scored on a throw-in from Rasaq Kuteyi as a miscommunication in the Lynx defense allowed them to gain a 1-0 lead.
CBU never looked back as they scored two more goals in a little over two minutes- the second off a penalty kick, and then CBU forward Matt Werasko scored his second goal of the night off a Joshua Menard corner kick.
The Lynx went into halftime down 3-0 but still were creating some decent scoring opportunities. They came into the second half doing well defensively until Matt Werasko was able to find the back of the net for the hat trick. Senior midfielder Brad Whitsitt rounded out the scoring in the 75th minute on Joshua Menard's second assist of the night. Goalkeeper Alex Margolin play the first 80 minutes of the game, making seven saves, and freshman goalkeeper Zach Morgan earned his collegiate save in his 10 minutes of work.
The Lynx are back in action on Sunday against another Gulf South Conference oppenent as they take on Delta State University at 4:00 pm at Rhodes College.
