Men's Soccer falls in final game of season, 3-2
11/05/06...

The Rhodes men's soccer team closed out the 2006 season on Sunday, losing to Oglethorpe University 3-2 in Atlanta, GA. Freshman forward Zachary Berry (Dyersburg, TN) and senior defender Alex Ramirez, playing his final game as a Lynx netted a goal each. It was Berry's second game in a row with a goal.

The Petrels of Oglethorpe struck first in the 25th minute as forward Danner Marsden scored on a header from a free kick just outside the Lynx box. The Lynx would have their chances, however, as freshman midfielder Allen Orgeron (New Orleans, LA) was able to get in behind the Petrel defense. His best chance came as he beat a defender and slotted a ball to forward Logan Eberly (Evansville, IN) who shot the ball over the crossbar. Oglethorpe would score one more goal just before halftime as Russell Kramer was able to turn on a ball and tuck it just inside the back post for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the score would be 3-0 before the Lynx would respond. In the 76th minute, Berry received a cross from Ramirez and was able to head it over goalkeeper Sean Fernandes to make it 3-1. The goal seemed to give the Lynx new life and that resulted in their second goal of the game. In the 89th minute off a corner kick by Logan Eberly, Alex Ramirez was able to volley it in for his first goal of the season. The Lynx tried to mount a comeback in the final minute of play, but were unable to get the ball out of their own end.

Alex Margolin started and played the first 71 minutes of the game, making three saves before giving way to freshman goalkeeper Zach Morgan (Bartlett, TN) who played the final 19 minutes of the game and made three saves as well. The Lynx end the season with a record of 6-10-3 and 3-5-1 in SCAC play.
