Rhodes Soccer loses to Chapman (CA), 3-2
10/15/06...
Coming off their first victory since the season opener, the Rhodes men's soccer team was looking at their Fall Break trip to Colorado as the boost they needed to get the season back on track. The men first took on Chapman University (CA), a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), and opened well, creating several early scoring chances. Freshmen forwards Logan Eberly and Zachary Berry created several turnovers in the offensive third of the field with their hard work, but were unable to connect on a goal.
The Lynx went down 1-0 in the 34th minute as forward Chris Marshall of Chapman took a ball to the left side past goalkeeper Alex Margolin and put the ball in for a 1-0 lead. The Lynx would respond less than a minute later as junior midfielder Chris Chugden received a pass from freshman forward Erick DeVore and blasted a shot past Chapman goalkeeper Josh Kaplan to tie the score at 1-1. The Panthers would regain the lead with 30 seconds left in the half as an own goal would give Chapman a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Going into the second half the Lynx were trying desperately to find a way to tie the score, taking several shots, but none being quality scoring opportunities. Chapman would score in the 63rd minute to make it 3-1, but Logan Eberly would score his team leading third goal of the season by chipping the goalkeeper from 30 yards out on a beautiful cross from junior midfielder Chase LaFont. The Lynx were unable to find another one as they ended up losing 3-2. Goalkeeper Alex Margolin went the distance in goal and finished with nine saves.
