Eight Players Named SCAC All Conference 05/23/07---For the second consecutive year, Junior Pitcher Robert Flanagan was named SCAC Pitcher of the Year, he was also named First Team All SCAC. Other members named First Team All SCAC include Junior first baseman Daniel Vanaman, who led the conference in hitting for the second consecutive season with a .422 average. Richard Hurd and J.R. Bizzell make All-Tournament Team 05/2/07---Junior Richard Hurd and Sophomore J.R. Bizzell have been named to the 2007 SCAC All-Tournament baseball team. During the tournament Hurd hit .444 (4-9) with a double, 2 RBI's, 2 runs scored and stole 2 bases. Bizzell led the tournament in hitting with a .643 average (9-14), with a triple, 4 RBI's, 3 runs scored and a stolen base. The Lynx went 1-2 in the conference tournament defeating Southwestern 8-6 in the first round before falling to eventually conference champion Austin College 10-8 and then lost to Millsaps 11-1 in an elimination game.

Rhodes knocks off Trinity, advances to SCAC finals 04/22/07---Lynx baseball took 2 of 3 games from Trinity University this weekend at USA Stadium in Millington, TN. Rhodes started the weekend with a 15-4 route behind junior Robert Flanagan, who pitched a complete game, allowing 4 earned runs off 9 hits. On Saturday, the Tigers' ace, Evan Bronson threw a 3-hit shutout to force game three this afternoon. Rhodes drew first blood with a 3-run third, and that was all Chris Catalanotto needed, who allowed only 4 hits and none through the first three innings. Rhodes piled up 12 hits on the Tiger pitching staff, which relied on its bullpen after 2 and a third innings. Rhodes advances to the SCAC finals in Georgetown, TX next weekend. Southwestern University earned a spot, also, this weekend and will host Rhodes, Austin College and Millsaps College.
Lynx Split Double Header with #3 Emory 04/15/07---The Rhodes Baseball team split today's double header with #3 Emory University. The Lynx dropped the first game 14-3 and won the second game 8-3. Junior Robert Flanagan picked up his first loss of the season in the first game, he is now 10-1 on the year. Sophomore Andy Holt picked up his 9th victory of the year in the second game, going 8 innings and striking out 8. Holt is now 9-2. Junior Matt Beesley led the Lynx offense going 3-3 with 2 2Bs, 2 RBI's, 2 runs and a hit by pitch. Senior Daniel Killary had 2 RBI's. The Lynx finish their regular season with a record of 33-7. Junior Richard Hurd has his streak of reaching base safely snapped in the first game at 38 games. Hurd has reached base by means of a hit, walk, or hit by pitch in 39 of the Lynx 40 games. The Lynx will open the first round of the conference tournament this Friday at USA Stadium in Millington, TN against Trinity University.
Rhodes Defeats #10 Washington University 04/14/07---The Rhodes Baseball team defeated the #10 team in the country, Washington University (MO) 8-3 this afternoon at USA stadium. Junior Chris Catalanotto picked up the victory for the Lynx, going 7 strong innings, giving up 2 unearned runs. Catalanotto is now 5-1 on the year. The Lynx bats were led by Junior Richard Hurd who was 2-3 with 2B, HBP, and 2 RBI's. Sophomore J.R. Bizzell was 2-5 with a 2B and 2 runs scored. With the victory, the Lynx improve their record to 32-6. The Lynx will square off with #3 Emory University in a double header tomorrow at 11:00 at USA Stadium in Millington, TN.
Rhodes Ranked 30th in Country 04/11/07---The Rhodes Baseball team has been ranked 30th in country, 6th in South region in the newest ABCA poll. This is the first time that Rhodes has every been ranked nationally. They are currently 31-6, enjoying the best season in school history. The Lynx will be in action once again this weekend against #3 Emory University and #10 Washington University (MO). All the games will be played at USA Stadium in Millington, TN. The Lynx will face Wash U at 12:00 and Emory at 7:00 on Saturday, before facing off with Emory again at 1:00 on Sunday.
Richard Hurd named Division III National Co-Hitter of the Week 04/05/07---The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named Richard Hurd the Co-Hitter of the Week for games played from March 26th to April 1st. Highlighted by two multi home run games, Hurd, on the week went 13 for 24 (.542), belting 5 home runs, driving in 16 runs, and slugging an incredible 1.208. For the season, Hurd leads the SCAC in batting average (.450), runs (48), hits (58) and total bases (93). Behind this great effort the Lynx went 5-0 on the week, including a 4 game sweep of SCAC East opponent, Centre College.

Hurd and Catalanotto earn SCAC Player of the Week honors 04/04/07---Junior outfielder Richard Hurd and Junior pitcher Chris Catalanotto have been named SCAC players of the week for games played from March 26th to April 1st. Lynx defeat CBU, Reach 30 Win Plateau 04/03/07---The Rhodes baseball team defeated Christian Brothers University this afternoon 7-6. Robert Flanagan picked up the victory after relieving starter Kevin McAlpine. Flanagan is now 10-0. Charles Simmons pitched the 8th and 9th to pick up the save, his 7th. Senior Daniel Killary was 2-2 on the day with a double and 2 RBIs. Sophomore Brett Miller was 2-4 with an RBI. With the victory, the Lynx improved to 30-4. This is the first time any Rhodes baseball team has reached the 30 win plateau. The Lynx will return to action next Monday night at Lagrange.
Lynx Sweep Series from Centre College, Clinch Eastern Division Title 04/01/07---The Rhodes baseball team defeated Centre College this afternoon 12-1 in Danville, KY. Junior Chris Catalanotto picked up the victory, throwing a complete game, giving up one earned run and striking out 11. Catalanotto is now 4-1 on the season. The Lynx bats remained hot all weekend, scoring 48 runs in the four games. The Lynx were led by Juniors Richard Hurd, Daniel Vanaman, and Sophomore Mason Mosby. On the weekend Hurd was 9-18, with 10 RBIs, 2B, 3 HRs, and 7 runs scored. Vanaman was 7-17, with 6 RBIs, 3B, HR, and 7 runs scored. Mosby was 9-15, with 9 RBIs, 2B, 2 HRs, and 8 runs scored. Sophomore Brett Miller hit his first career homerun in the 3rd game of the series. The Lynx are now 29-4, which sets a new school record for single season wins. The Lynx also clinched the eastern division title with the victory. Rhodes will return to action Tuesday at 3:00 at Christian Brothers University.
Lynx Defeat Rust College 17-7 03/28/07---The Rhodes baseball team defeated Rust College this afternoon 17-7 at Bearcat Field. Senior Robby Piper picked up the victory. Piper is now 1-1 on the year. The Lynx offense was powered by Junior Richard Hurd who had 2 homeruns and Junior Daniel Vanaman who had a homerun and a double. The Lynx will travel to Danville, KY this weekend to take on Centre College in their final conference weekend of the year.

Lynx Baseball extends winning streak to 14 games with win over Methodist 03/17/07---The Rhodes Baseball team outscored Methodist College by a score of 6-1 to extend their current winning streak to 14 games. Before last season, when the team equalled the school record for wins, the Lynx had not won more than 13 games in a season since well before the turn of the century. Rhodes' 2007 record stands at 20-2. The Lynx will return home to play Elmhurst tomorrow at 12:00pm.
Baseball team defeats Piedmont 03/16/07---The Lynx defeated the Piedmont Lions by a score of 4-2 behind the strong pitching of Andy Holt who improved to 7-0 on the season. Rhodes improves to 19-2 in 2007 and will face Methodist College at 12:00 pm in Demorest, GA on St. Patrick's Day.
Lynx win 10-0 to complete 2 game sweep of Drew (NJ) 03/14/07---The Lynx picked up win #2 over DrewUniversity with a 10-0 win on Wednesday afternoon. Gordon Chadwick (New Orleans, Fr) pitched five strong innings to pick up the win. Daniel Vanaman (Memphis, Jr) went 4 for 5 and scored 3 runs to lead the Lynx. Freshman Kevin McAlpine picked up his first collegiate victory going 5 innings, striking out 2 and giving up 3 earned runs. Sophomores J.R. Vanaman hit .588 (10-17) with 4 doubles, 9 RBI's, 9 runs, and 2 walks, giving him an on base percentage of .667. Holt was 2-0, picking up victories over Christian Brothers University and Sewanee. He pitched 10.1 innings, giving up 1 earned run and striking out 12. Holt had a .87 ERA on the week.

This is the second week in a row that Flanagan has picked up the award. Flanagan pitched 7 2/3 innings, striking out 7, and giving up no earned runs to pick up the victory against #13 Millsaps College. Flanagan is now 3-0 on the year with a 0.92 ERA.
Lynx Defeat #13 Millsaps College 02/18/07---The Rhodes baseball team improved its record to 4-1 with a 8-5 victory over #13 Millsaps College. The Lynx received an outstanding pitching performance from Junior Robert Flanagan, who threw 7 2/3 innings, striking out 7 and giving up 3 unearned runs. Sophomore Andy Holt was able to hold off a late rally by the Majors and preserve the victory while picking up his first save of the season. The Lynx offensive attack was led by Juniors Daniel Vanaman and Richard Hurd. Vanaman was 2-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored while Hurd went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Flanagan named SCAC Pitcher of the Week 02/12/07---Junior Robert Flanagan was named SCAC Pitcher of the Week for games played between February 3rd and 11th. Flanagan went 2-0 on the week, picking up wins over University of the Ozarks and Huntingdon College. During the week, Flanagan worked 12 innings, striking out 17, and giving up 2 earned runs while allowing only 2 walks. During this span, he held opposing hitters to a .190 batting average and had a 1.50 ERA.

Lynx baseball named most improved team in NCAA Division III in 2006 11/14/06--- The 2006 Rhodes Baseball team has been named the most improved team in Division III after posting a 28-15 record. The Lynx had a 15 game improvement over the 2005 season. This was the best season in recent history, tying the school record in wins (28), and making their first appearance in the conference tournament.
Cathey '06 Selected for Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship 06/28/06---Rhodes bawseball graduate Eben Cathey has been selected to receive a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship for 2007-2008. Cathey, a native of Smyrna, Tenn., received a B.A. degree in political science and Greek and Roman studies from Rhodes in May. Cathey says with the Rotary scholarship he hopes to do a year of study in South Africa, although actual placement will not take place until October. more...
