Prof. Mark Muesse, winner of the 2007-08 Outstanding Teaching Award, and members of the Committee on Academic Advising will introduce you to teaching and learning at Rhodes.

Get to know the Rhodes faculty member who will serve as your academic advisor and meet other new students with similar academic interests.  Receive your fall class schedule, learn more about the fall course drop/add process, and sign up for one-on-one meetings with your advisor.

This session is your first SEARCH or LIFE class. Learn about our unique Humanities course sequence.  Bring a notebook and pen.

A member of the SEARCH faculty will introduce the epic of Gilgamesh, a literary masterpiece from the ancient Near East and the first text to be read in the class. 

Life –Clough Hall, Orgill Room  
A member of the LIFE faculty will introduce Religious Studies 101, the first course in the LIFE sequence, and its relevance to the Foundations curriculum.

It’s a shopping opportunity for Rhodes’ first-year students to get last minute necessities. Cool door prizes will be given away throughout the night to participants.  Don’t miss out! (Bring your Student ID! All shopping expenses are on your own.)

This session provides African American, Latino/a, Asian, and Native American students with important information to help facilitate their transition to college life at Rhodes.  Faculty/staff members and representatives of the cultural student organizations (Black Student Association, All Students Interested in Asia, Hispanic Organization for Language & Activities, and Rhodes Indian Cultural Exchange) will be present.  Dinner will be served.

President Troutt and Chaplain Tennyson will welcome and offer a personal word to the Class of 2012. The Chaplain will speak to the Class of 2012 about the challenges of spiritual life and community service at Rhodes and in Memphis.  Students from a variety of religious backgrounds will lead music and prayers in several languages.  Casual dress is appropriate.

Faculty will be available to answer any questions you might have about your placement results and where you fit into the curriculum.  Also, various programs options and study abroad opportunities for will be covered for each language.  Follow up testing for those whose scores on the on-line placement exam indicate that they might be ready to move beyond the 201-level language classes will also be offered during this time.

This is a mandatory first meeting for anyone interested in a health profession or veterinary medicine (Including Allopathic Medicine (MD), Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Podiatric Medicine, Chiropractic Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, and any other clinical health career.)  This meeting is your introduction to Health Professions Advising at Rhodes.  All future communications regarding HPA will be to the email distribution list generated by this meeting.  If there is a legitimate reason to miss this meeting, please contact Dr. Alan Jaslow, Director HPA.
