Choosing Rhodes

You’ve read countless college brochures, pored over “Best of…” reviews and heard everyone’s opinions. Now it’s time to figure out whether Rhodes College is a good fit for you. If the statements below sound like you, the answer is yes.
I want a college that expects the best from me.
For starters, we require all our students to subscribe to the student-directed Honor Code. It’s not just lip service—you agree to refrain from any dishonest act, from cheating on a test to lying to a professor to filching someone else’s all-temperature detergent. Because of the Code, honesty is a given; integrity matters, and values are put into practice—every day.
I am looking for outstanding academics.
Our top-ranked academics with 11:1 student/faculty ratio and rigorous humanities requirement will challenge you to think for yourself. And Rhodes graduates have an exceptionally high rate of acceptance into graduate or professional programs.I want the opportunity to make a difference.
Rhodes students are passionate about effecting positive change in the world. That’s why more than 80% of our students participate in programs such as Rhodes CARES (Center for Academic Research and Education Through Service) or any of the 100 diverse service opportunities available through the Kinney Program. This aspect of college life has been institutionalized at Rhodes into a unique Fellowship Program structured to maximize students’ internship, service, research and cultural opportunities.
I want a life outside of classes.
While 50% of our students participate in the non-residential Greek system, most parties are open to everyone, and Greek lodges are non-residential so campus friendships know no barriers. Films, lectures and bands are among popular campus activities, and Memphis is teeming with entertainment options just a few miles from campus.
I want an environment that supports learning.
The Rhodes campus is an idyllic setting reminiscent of the Ivy League universities of New England. We’re located in a quiet residential neighborhood approximately four miles northeast of the downtown core. But even better, you’ll have Memphis as a laboratory to enrich your learning experience.Memphis is home to FedEx, AutoZone, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The National Civil Rights Museum, Ghandi Institute for Nonviolence, Graceland and much more. A vital hub of Southern culture, business and medicine, Memphis offers you the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge and broadened interests through professional internships, research opportunities and social activism.
