Profile of the Entering Class

For the Class of 2013, applications reached record numbers, as Rhodes received applications from over 5,000 prospective students. The academic qualifications of the entering class increased, as did our selectivity. The first-year class of 431 students preserved Rhodes′s total enrollment of 1,671 students.

Academic Credentials

Of the 431 members of the Class of 2013:

  • 18 were valedictorians or salutatorians of their class
  • Fifty-three percent ranked in the top 10% of their class
  • Seventy-three percent had a grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0; the mean GPA of the class is 3.73
  • Composite standardized test scores for the class are impressive: the middle 50% range of SAT scores is 1210 to 1370 and the ACT middle 50% range is 26 to 30.

Honors and Activities

  • 21 were presidents of their student governments or senior class; 15 were student government or senior class vice presidents; 15 were president or vice president of the National Honor Society
  • 88 were president of at least one high-school club or organization
  • 21 were editors of the yearbook, school newspaper or literary magazine
  • 97 were captains of a varsity athletic team

Geographic and Racial Diversity

  • The Class of 2013 comes from 36 states and 6 foreign countries; from as far away as California, Maine, Pakistan, and China, and as nearby as mid-town Memphis
  • The number of students by state include: Tennessee with 121 or 28% of the class, followed by Texas with 50, Louisiana with 38, Georgia with 27, and Arkansas with 26.
  • Students of color make up 24% of the entering class with 38 African-Americans, 49 Asian students, 10 Hispanic students, and 9 other minorities for a total of 106 students of color

Admission Statistics

  • 5,167 applications received
  • 2,142 students accepted (41% of the applicant pool)
  • 451 entering students, including 431 first-year students
