Terese Buscher

After many years as director of admissions at Rhodes, Terese Buscher moved to the high school side of the college process at Hutchison School in Memphis. Armed with a first-hand knowledge of the student and parent perspective, Buscher recently returned to Rhodes as Associate Dean of Admissions. Buscher has spent 25 years as an admissions and college counselor helping young people in the transition from high school to college. "I never expected to be an admission counselor," Buscher says. "I pursued a Master′s in History at Marquette University in Milwaukee, and thought I would end up teaching. But then I realized I didn′t have the passion for teaching or for history that my classmates had. I was fortunate to find the perfect job for me after graduation when Marquette offered me a job in admissions."
Buscher grew up in Trieste, Italy, which gave her a love for travel. She calls Germany her "second home" since her husband′s family and her sister live there. Buscher says that "one of the best things about admissions work is that you can see the world." She traveled to Latin America , Europe, and to most states in the U.S. during her first tenure at Rhodes, but is now responsible for Shelby County and the Memphis Private Schools. When she is not working, Buscher practices Tai Chi, plays guitar, takes walks and cheers her husband on as he competes in marathons and triathlons. Her favorite part of Memphis? "Overton Park for sure. I live only minutes from the park and walk there nearly every day. It′s a treasure to enjoy and protect."
