Psychology Poster Session 2009

Join us in the McCoy studio December 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 for the Psychology Poster Session. This annual event highlights recent faculty-student research collaborations in the Psychology Department. Students will display posters of their research and be available to explain and discuss their projects. Many of the studies have been conducted by students in advanced research methods classes or senior seminars. If you are considering psychology as a major, or if you are just curious about the psychological science that goes on at Rhodes, this event is for you!

The Department of Psychology provides students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of behavior and experience from a variety of theoretical perspectives.  The psychology faculty specialize in a wide variety of psychological topics including physiological, clinical/community, health, counseling, cognitive, social, and developmental psychology.  The department offers several courses of general interest to non-majors and students in related fields.

The psychology major develops an educational background beneficial to a number of careers in psychology.  The department seeks to help students develop an understanding of the theories and methods that guide the science and practice of psychology by integrating

  1. readings from the major theoretical perspectives and discussion of theoretical and applied issues
  2. practice in empirical methods and involvement in ongoing research
  3. participation in community interventions and psychological services

Students may concentrate on developing research skills that prepare them for post-baccalaureate employment, or research experience and scholarship that prepares them for graduate or professional training in psychology, health related fields, business, law, or education.

Welcome to Clough

Faculty offices and classrooms for the department of psychology are housed in Clough Hall.  Facilities include observational research space for child development and social interaction research, a Human Psychophysiology Laboratory, a Language and Learning Technologies Laboratory, and individual testing and interviewing rooms.  Clough 114 is our primary classroom space, although psychology classes are often taught in other places on campus.  Room 123A doubles as a lab space and a seminar room.  During exam periods, this room is open as a study space for psychology majors.  Be sure to drop by the Atkinson Reading Room (psych library) in Clough 111A for valuable student resources!
