Physics Graduates 2000 - 2006

Sarah S. Bettinger, 2000, In December 2006 Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. She is now working as a Structural Design Engineer with Pillar Design Group, a small consulting firm in St. Louis, MO. Sarah is also a registered Wilderness EMT.
Jeremy D. Brewer, 2000, Graduate Student at the University of Pittsburgh. Jeremy′s area of research involves computer programming, applying data mining techniques to telescope data. The programs Jeremy creates looks at multiple images of galaxies and tries to find the similarities among them. 
Hunter S. Freeman, 2000, Intellectual Property Attorney at McNair Law Firm, specializing in the prosecution and enforcement of patents, most of which are directed towards mechanical and electrical devices, involved in the prosecution and enforcement of trademarks, copyright protection, which is targeted towards expressions of ideas, such as software, books, and songs. Hunter is also a registered patent attorney.
Wilfred E. McKinney, 2000, Will has been involved in commercial real estate for most of his time out of college. He received an MBA from Vanderbilt University this past May with concentrations in finance and accounting with an emphasis in real estate. Upon graduating from Vanderbilt, Will took a job as an Asset Manager with Crown West Realty in Phoenix, AZ.  In this position he oversees leasing and property management of office buildings in Phoenix and also works with buying and selling assets for the company.
Bambi R. Roberts (now Brewer), 2000, Bambi received her Ph.D. in robotics in May 2006 from The Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University. In September she will  be a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Her research will be on the use of robotics in rehabilitation. 
Stephen R. Smith, 2000, Enrolled at Montana State University pursuing a Masters Degree in Architecture. 
Stephen A. Whitten, 2000, Senior Research Technician for Smith & Nephew, Inc., Memphis, TN.
Julie A. Auwarter (now Javarone), 2001, Graduate Student at the University of Texas at Houston pursuing her D.D.S. and Ph.D. 
Erin E. Henderlight, 2001, Working at Buncombe County (Asheville, NC) Department of Social Services as a Program Planner/Evaluator. 
Phillip G. Krepp, 2001, Research Assistant at Vanderbilt University.
David J. Merriman, 2001, Medical School Student.
Lauren E. Mize (now Falco), 2001, Currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate Program in Acoustics at Penn State. Current research pertains to the nonlinear propagation of jet aircraft noise. Also a violinist and has an interest in musical acoustics, as well.
Mark J. Loeffler,  2002 Graduate Student at the University of Virginia. Research interests  include the effects of radiation on planetary surfaces in the laboratory using pulsed lasers and ion beams. 
Elizabeth S. Serex (now Evans), 2002, Graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill and a research scientist at Duke University Medical Center.  Studying the effects of radiation therapy on the heart in breast cancer patients.  Beth is also interested in exercise testing/prescription in cancer patients.
Adam B. Barnes, 2003  
Benjamin A. Evans, 2003, Beginning third year at UNC-Chapel Hill pursuing his Ph.D. Working in a multidisciplinary nanotechnology group and using magnetoelastomers to mimic biological entities (biomimetics).  Currently developing life-sized magnetically actuatable cilia with applications in cystic fibrosis research. Ben is interested in magnetic self-assembly. He spends summers as faculty at the North Carolina Governor′s School teaching the physics of emerging energy technologies to rising high school seniors.
Neil K. Fore, 2003, Enrolled in Officer′s Candidate School for the United States Air Force.
Lauren S. Glas (now Zarandona), 2003, High School Math Instructor in Mississippi.
Stuart T. Johnston, 2003, Teaching 12th grade physics and advanced math at New Era Academy (Baltimore City Public Schools).  
Thomas J. O′Hara IV, 2003, Since graduating from Rhodes, Tom has been studying cardiac bioelectricity in Dr. Yoram Rudy′s lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. Specifically, Tom is developing a detailed computer model of the electrical behaviors of the human ventricular cell that he will use to investigate new ways to prevent deadly heart rhythm disorders.
Jonathan A. Rogers, 2003, Graduate Student pursuing his Masters Degree in Medical Physics at Vanderbilt University. Also works with a company that trains physicists on dosimetry equipment.  
Karyn E. Spence, 2003, Graduate Student at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dustin M. Diez, 2004, Completed his Master′s Degree in Medical Physics at Vanderbilt University and is now working as a Therapeutic Radiological Physicist for the Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Dustin still proclaims his love of Physics.

Stacy M. Sidle, 2004, Graduate Student at University of Texas at Austin where she is also a Teaching Assistant. Research Interests: Granular Materials. 
Elizabeth A. Wennerstrom, 2004, Graduate Student at the University of Georgia, Athens. Beth has spent the last year working for Dr. Magnani on looking at the transition regions of high latitude molecular clouds in the galaxy - clouds that lie above or below the galactic plane. Specifically, they have been looking at the abundances of OH (hydroxyl molecule) in translucent clouds in order to better identify the transition between the molecular cloud and the surrounding atomic gas. They have utilized the radio observatories at Arecibo, Puerto Rico and Green Bank, West Virginia.
