Ivan Fernández is an Assistant Professor of Spanish. He offers classes on Spanish Language and Literature, with an empahis on the Peninsular Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. His main areas of research interest are Early Modern Spanish Literature, Latin American Colonial Literature, gender studies, confession, and autobiography. He is currently working in a book project on confession in Teresa of Avila and beginning research on a second project about autobiographical writing and the creation of a national identity in Early Modern Spain. He has also published research on Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, Calderón de la Barca, Teresa of Avila, and Miguel de Cervantes.
