5/10/08 - The Departments of International Studies and Political Science will hold a joint reception imediately following the Commencement Ceremony. We will be located under a canopy on the north side of Buckman Hall.
Recent News 4/08/08 - Lecture by Dr. Andrew A. Michta
Dr. Andrew Michta, on leave from Rhodes College and currenty at the Marshall Center in Garmisch, Germany, will return to lecture on 4/08/08 as the guest of his department, the Department of International Studies and the Robert H. Buckman Speakers Series. His presentation will be in Blount Auditorium at 4:00 p.m. "The Changing Nature of War in the 21st Century" will be the title of his presentation. This lecture is free and open to the public.
2//19/08 - The Department of International Studies will co-sponsor and event with Career Services to bring Jean-Marc Hachey, international job search/careers speaker, to campus during Career Awareness Week on Tuesday, February 19, 2008.

9/28/07 - The Mertie W. Buckman International Intern Presentation
The Mertie W. Buckman 2007 International Interns gave a short presentation about their summer work and travel. They spoke on Friday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m., Blount Auditorium in Buckman Hall with a reception following in the Buckman Lobby. Our 2007 Mertie W. Buckman International Interns and their sponsors were as follows:

10/18/07 - RUSSIAN LECTURE BY DR. NICOLAI PETROThe Departments of Russian Studies and International Studies co-sponsored a lecture by Dr. Nicolai Petro, Professor of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island. "Vladimir Putin′s Legacy for Russia and for the World" is the title of his presentation. The lecture was on Thursday, October 18, 6:00 p.m. in Orgill Auditorium.
10/20/07 - INTERNATIONAL STUDIES AND POLITICAL SCIENCE HOMECOMING RECEPTION
The Departments of International Studies and Political Science held a joint homecoming reception in Buckman Lobby at 1:00 p.m. Faculty was on hand to greet former students.
10/22/07 - LECTURE BY PROFESSOR JOHN COPPER
Professor John Copper, Stanley J. Buckman Distinguished Professor International Studies, spoke at 3:00 p.m. in Buckman 110. The title of his talk was "The Rise of China: What it Means to the United States and the World." Professor Copper is the senior faculty member of the International Studies Department faculty and is on leave during the current academic year.
11/02/07 - LECTURE BY QUBAD TALABANI
Qubad Talabani, the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government representative to the U.S. spoke on "The Other Iraq" on Friday, November 2, 5:00 p.m. in Blount Auditorium. There was a reception in Buckman Lobby before the lecture.
Mr. Talabani was one of the negotiators of Iraq′s first post-Saddam constitution. His family has ben involved in Kurdish politics for decades. His father Jalal Talabani is the President of the Republic of Iraq and Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
The lecture was well attended and there was standing room only in Blount Auditorium.
11/06/07 - GRADUATE SCHOOL RECRUITMENT FAIR
Graduate admissions representatives from 5 schools conducted an informative panel for students interested in attending a graduate program in International Affairs. The schools represented included Georgetown - MSFS, Tufts - Fletcher, Princeton - Woodrow Wilson, Johns Hopkins - SAIS and Columbia - SIPA.
11/12/07 - LECTURE BY DR. GODWIN MURUNGA
Dr. Godwin Murunga who teaches history at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya lectured on "The Struggle for Democracy in Kenya." He focused on mapping the changing nature of politics in Kenya and the promise this holds for the country as it goes to the next general election on December 27, 2007. He will also draw some comparative issues that relate to other African countries.
