Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry homepage. Our department views modern chemistry as a broadly diverse science, with roots in physics and mathematics, and applications in biology, geology, medicine, and industry.

The study of chemistry provides the student with both knowledge and understanding of the composition, properties, and transformations of natural and synthetic substances. Work in the department consists of lectures, problem-solving exercises, laboratory work, and research opportunities. It is through this combination of empirical learning, experimentation, and creative thought that the study of chemistry contributes to a strong liberal arts and science education.
