Contemporary Music Ensemble
David Lay, Director
The Rhodes Contemporary Music Ensemble is a performing group which specializes in contemporary pop and commercial styles with an emphasis on Memphis music. In addition to performing as a part of the Music Department’s annual concert season, the ensemble represents the college both at functions throughout the city and at college sponsored activities. The group was voted Best Band at the 2006 annual Rhodes College Battle of the Bands.
Recent repertoire includes music by Booker T. and the MG’s, Rufus and Chaka Khan, and Stevie Wonder. Auditions for the ensemble are held in the spring semester for membership during the following academic year. Membership requires a one year commitment to the group. One hour of college credit per semester is available for participation in the ensemble.
