New Faculty


Rashna Richards

Rashna Richards will join the Rhodes English faculty in the Fall of 2008 as Assistant Professor of Film Studies. She earned her doctorate from the University of Florida in 2006 and has held a position an Assistant Professor of English and Director of Film Studies at SUNY Brockport. Her teaching and research interests include film history, critical theory, transnational cultural studies, and visual culture. Richards is currently working on a book manuscript, Lightning Flashes: On the Love of Cinema and the Practice of Film History, which explores the role of cinephilia in film. Other recent scholarship includes forthcoming articles in Arizona Quarterly, Film Quarterly, and Scope.


Rychetta Watkins

Rychetta Watkins received her Ph.D. in English at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005 and will join the English faculty at Rhodes as Assistant Professor of African American Literature in the coming Fall. She has taught at William Jewell College as Assistant Professor of English, and her interests include African American Literature 1865 to the present, Asian American Literature, Twentieth-Century American Literature, and Ethnic American Literature. Her forthcoming publications will be featured in The Southern Quarterly, Asian American Literature, Postcolonial Theory, and the Encyclopedia of Popular Fiction.
