Meeman Center for Lifelong Learning

Since its inception in 1944, the Meeman Center for Lifelong Learning has fulfilled Rhodes’ commitment to learning as a lifelong process by engaging adults from the Mid-South and beyond in liberal education. Meeman Center promotes personal and professional development to individuals and businesses through programs, courses and trips distinguished by their academic excellence.
Non-credit Courses
Topics include literature, art, languages, science, current events, history, religion, philosophy and other areas. Courses—led by Rhodes faculty and invited experts, including Rhodes alumni—vary in length and run September through November and January through May. You may view course descriptions and register for lifelong learning courses at http://meeman.rhodes.edu/.
Rhodes to Travel
Meeman Center offers national and international trips enhanced by faculty and knowledgeable guides. Travel includes resource guides and preparatory sessions. Open to Rhodes alumni and friends, the tours blend education with travel and relaxed camaraderie. Recent destinations include the Baltic states, Russia’s waterways, and the Basque country.
Institute for Executive Leadership
In nine monthly sessions, this program studies leadership through great works of literature and case studies of current corporate executives. Rhodes professors and a facilitator from the business community lead discussions.
Institute on the Profession of Law
Rhodes faculty help plan and participate in this annual seminar featuring national speakers, broad issues in law, discussion and reflection. Attorneys may earn dual Continuing Legal Education (CLE) units. The Institute is certified by the Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi CLE Commissions.
Meeman at Night
Tuition-free events such as special courses, lectures, workshops and book signings are open to the Rhodes community and the public throughout the academic year.
Meeman on the Road
In collaboration with the Alumni Relations Office, Meeman sends Rhodes professors to speak at alumni chapters and in other locations by request.
Continuing Education Units
Generally, Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are earned through any Meeman non-credit course. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) hours are earned through the Institute on the Profession of Law and certain other CLE Commission-certified courses. Both Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit and CEU’s are earned in the Institute for Executive Leadership. Contact the Meeman Center for more information.
