Alumni Updates

Bob Edwards (′83) is currently teaching Chinese language and culture at St. Andrew′s-Sewanee School in Sewanee, TN.  Last year, Bob, his wife Jan, and son Thomas led six students to China for a three week trip.  In addition to Beijing and Shanghai, they spent a good deal of time in Jan′s home province of Sichuan, where they visited sites likes the JiuZhaiGou nature preserve and the giant buddha at LeShan.  Bob’s website is sinomojo.com and email address is bedwards@sasweb.org

Elizabeth Markovits (’97) recently accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Politics Department at Mount Holyoke College.  Liz’s book, The Politics of Sincerity:  Plato, Frank Speech, and Democratic Judgment, was recently published by Penn State University Press (and is now available in the Barret Library). 

Harry Lebair (’02) graduated from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in May, 2007, where he ranked in the top ten of his class and graduated cum laude.  After passing the Tennessee bar exam, he has been practicing law at the Memphis firm, Allen, Summers, which specializes in insurance defense and labor & employment law.  During my short tenure, Harry has already litigated two cases (both successfully). 

Anna Cantrell (‘07) is continuing her year of teaching English in Japan with the JET Program.  Anna was engaged over the winter break to Aaron Creek (’07) who is spending this year in the Philippines on a Luce Scholarship.

Emily Donelson (’08) will be attending the University of Chicago’s CIR Program in the fall where she’ll be working towards a Masters degree in International Relations.

Leah Hirsh (’08) is moving to Auckland, New Zealand for the year and encourages friends to keep in touch and not to hesitate to contact her if they are in the vicinity.

Kristin Wood (’08) will be enrolling at St. Mary′s University in San Antonio, TX to study Clinical Psychology.
