The Department of English, in conjunction with Rhodes Career Services office, sponsors a number of internships. Internships offer an excellent opportunity to observe and participate in a workplace environment. Such experiences allow students to explore various career options as they decide how they will apply themselves after graduation. Dr. Leslie Petty, associate professor and chair of the English department, was named as the director of this year’s American Literature Association Conference. The 29th annual conference was held May 24-27 in San Francisco, CA.
In addition to her editor-in-chief duties for the Review, Karina Henderson ’18 also uses her passion for writing to create workshops and programs to help middle and high school students develop literacy skills through the Refugee Empowerment Program.
Seniors Palmer, Hornsey, and Li have been awarded highly competitive teaching assistantships for 2018-2019 through the Assistants de langue en France.
She is one of only 40 graduating college seniors nationwide awarded the fellowship. She plans to visit Guatemala, South Africa, Greece, India, and Mongolia while completing her project titled “Searching for Home, Shaping the Self.”
Prof. Wilkinson is a 2003 Rhodes alumna. Her poem, “When We Were Shepherds,” was published in the March 5 issue of The Nation, America’s oldest weekly magazine.
At Rhodes, she directs film and media studies, and her teaching and research interests include American film and television, critical theory, and transnational cultural studies.
