Will Anyone Listen?
In an in-depth article about the effectiveness of national study commissions, Inside Higher Ed led with President Troutt’s experience with the Commission on the Cost of Higher Education. Effectiveness criteria have a lot to do with timing, the article concludes, and it’s not always easy to tell whether a group has made a lasting impact. Chris Simmons, a Duke administrator who staffed the commission, says he still receives requests for the final report at least monthly.
