College Libraries Not Just Books
Colleges around the country are discovering that campus libraries today need to serve more functions than book storage, noted this Associated Press syndicated story that appeared in newspapers and on Web sites around the country. “Amid the endless distractions of the modern campus, students repeatedly say in surveys they want a quiet place where they can get serious work done,” Pope wrote in the story filed July 25, 2007. “But they never want to be more than a short walk away from a latte.” Of the Rhodes library he wrote, “Its traditional feel blends seamlessly with Rhodes’ other handsome Gothic buildings.” President Troutt added that the elegant building is “a statement to alumni, parents and touring prospective students about the college’s seriousness.”
