Ten Things to Do In Memphis Before You Graduate from Rhodes

  1. Watch the nightly parade of planes to the Memphis Airport from a quiet spot on campus. Memphis’ airport is the busiest in the world because of FedEx and makes for a spectacular show at night.
  2. Take the trolley in the South Main arts district. You’ll find amazing art galleries and unexpected restaurants in this vibrant district.
  3. Visit the Civil Rights Museum.  It will touch your head and heart.
  4. Experience Graceland. Its combination of music and shag-carpet décor is unparalleled.
  5. Explore Beale Street. Touristy by day but lively at night.
  6. Tour the Stax Museum and Sun Studio.  Memphis’ musical past really shines at both landmarks.
  7. Visit the Memphis Zoo and Brooks Museum.  Right across the street from campus in Overton Park are the pandas and Renaissance artwork.
  8. Check out the Peabody Hotel and its lobby. Time your visit right and you can see the Peabody ducks parade through the lobby and into their fountain.
  9. Experience Memphis in May. It’s a blast from Music Fest, to Barbeque Fest, to the outdoor Symphony.
  10. Cheer on our sports teams—the Redbirds (baseball) and Grizzlies (basketball) at the new FedEx Forum.
