Rhodes College hosted the Memphis Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Middle School Volleyball Championship recently in Mallory Gymnasium.  The Ridgeway Roadrunners defeated the Sherwood Archers 2-0 in the contest organized by Rhodes head volleyball coach Sam Lambert and her team.

“Working with the community is something I believe in and something my team tries to do as much as we can,” says Lambert. “It was a really exciting atmosphere for the two teams.”
The Roadrunners, as it turns out, are no strangers to the Rhodes campus.  Last August, several members of the squad attended Coach Lambert’s eighth annual volleyball camp for local Memphis middle and high school student-athletes.  Over 120 attended.

“Coach Sam and Rhodes College have proven to be valuable community connections,” says India Weaver, a MIAA athletic trainer who helped Lambert plan the events.  “This relationship has been a fortunate opportunity that we hope to continue year after year.”

Lambert also hopes hosting the championship becomes an annual Rhodes tradition, much like the hosting of Cypress Middle School’s Homecoming football game.
