Campaign Goals: Student Access, Learning, Engagement and Inspiration

The Campaign for Rhodes aims to raise $250 million to help attract the very best faculty, students and staff by providing funds for each of the following strategic imperatives.

Access

A Rhodes education should be available to all worthy students, regardless of their ability to pay for it. Through an innovative new undergraduate fellowship program, Rhodes will strive to meet 100% of qualified students’ demonstrated financial need, attract a more diverse student body and increase graduation rates.

By design, fellowships will require students to participate in real-world experiences that enhance classroom learning—such as service, internships, research and international study. Funding from the endowment will increase the number and quality of options.

Learning

A skilled and committed faculty shapes students’ learning and sustains the character of the college. Alumni consistently refer to their close relationships with their professors as a hallmark of the Rhodes education.

Endowed chairs and faculty development and research funds will sustain a faculty of teacher-scholars who mentor colleagues and students, build relevant academic programs and provide service and leadership in their campus, local and professional communities.

Engagement

The most fulfilling liberal arts education includes learning beyond the classroom, where students examine their values in a new, and often life-changing, context. Opportunities typically include community-based research, service, internships or international study.

Through a growing number of community partnerships, students gain competence in a chosen field while also developing a commitment to civic responsibility.

Inspiration

Every Rhodes student pledges to uphold the Honor Code, and many report this action shapes their values for a lifetime. Individual and group mentoring through the Chaplain’s and Student Leadership Offices encourages students to explore vocation and integrate spirituality with learning.

Rhodes’ beautiful campus has inspired generations of students to pursue the academic achievement and integrity symbolized by collegiate gothic architecture. Renovations and additions will help maintain the traditional look of Rhodes and simultaneously ensure that it remains a relevant and state-of-the-art learning community.
