Dr. Daniel Levitin, who runs the Levitin Laboratory for Musical Perception, Cognition, and Expertise at McGill University, will present “This is Your Brain on Music” Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in Hardie Auditorium.

The lecture is for the Rhodes Singers, but the public is invited to hear this fascinating exploration of the relationship between music and the mind, and the role of melodies in shaping our lives.

Levitin is a cognitive neuroscientist and former record producer. He has published extensively in scientific journals and music trade magazines such as Grammy and Billboard.

To Levitin, studying how the brain processes music provides a window into how parts of the brain communicate with each other.  Why does music evoke powerful moods? Levitin’s award-winning book This is Your Brain on Music unravels a host of mysteries that affect everything from pop culture to human nature.

Join the Rhodes Singers for his presentation on September 18.
