Institutional Research

Institutional Research at Rhodes exists as a function of the Information Services division and is overseen by Jay Eckles, Director of Information Services.

Accreditation

Rhodes is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097; telephone number 404-679-4501) to award baccalaureate and master degrees.

Rhodes is scheduled to undergo reaffirmation of accreditation in 2009.  Further information, including our compliance report, is online at http://sacs.rhodes.edu/.

Assessment

For assistance with assessment - at any level: course, department, program, division, or college - contact Jay Eckles at x3100.

Data profiles

Rhodes participates in NAICU′s Univesity and College Accountability Network

Data we report to the US Department of Education is avaiable via the IPEDS College Navigator.

Data compiled from the Common Data Set and other surveys are available at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Colleges that Change Lives, the College Board, Princeton Review, US News and World Report, and many other sites.

Surveys

Anyone wishing to survey any part of the campus community can contact Information Services for assistance.  Administrative offices are required to do so; students and faculty doing scholarly research are not required to contact Information Services, though we are happy to offer assistance to scholars conducting research.  The complete policy is available in the College Handbook under "Evaluation Surveys".

Academic departments or programs interested in surveying their graduating majors should know that they are allowed and encouraged to include a section specific to their program in the annual required Senior Exit Survey.  Modern Languages and Literature served as a test case for this process last year; they may be willing to share the questions they asked on their portion of the survey.  Pscyhology has also assembled quetions to be included on ths year′s version.  Last year′s response rate to the survy was 385 out of 390 graduating students.

Data Services

Any and all requests for data, reports, or lists of students, faculty, or staff can now be emailed to dataservices@rhodes.edu.  Your request will be entered into a tracking system and assigned a number, just like an ITS Help Desk request.  It will be assigned to the college staff member who can best and most quickly respond.

IR material online

The Collections & Surveys page has been updated with links to a number of electronic summary reports for several of the data collections in which we participate, such as NSSE, FSSE, the Student Satisfaction Inventory, and others.  We hope that this improved access will lead to more informed decision making and an increased interest in performing research based on the IR data collections.

Information Services has compiled a partial inventory and summary of the data collected and archived by our office.  Please feel free to request the use of any of this data for your assessment purposes by calling Jay Eckles and x3100.
