Ken and Madge Wood Tullis, both Class of 1965, have received the Sandy Martin Grassroots Award from the Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) in Washington, DC.

The award is presented to "unsung heroes" working at the local or state level who clearly exemplify sustained commitment to the mission of suicide prevention. The award is named for Sandy Martin, who was a member of the SPAN USA Board of Directors from 2002 to 2006.

Madge currently serves on the network’s board. Ken, a psychiatrist, has written several books on suicide and suicide prevention, one of which Madge coauthored.

They are also cofounders of the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network.
