Intensive Language: Germany
Germany
Accompanied by a Rhodes faculty member, students travel to a location in another country for four weeks of total immersion in the language and culture of that country. Rhodes College financial aid is not available for these programs. Generally, a total of four credit hours can be earned. To be eligible for an intensive language program, one year of college level work is required in the language to be studied.
The Maymester in Bremen utilizes the Goethe Institute to implement a four-week intensive summer language course in a German speaking environment. The Goethe Institute is a federal organization promoting German culture and language worldwide. Courses available are German 205, 305; additional optional courses are German 210 and 310. Prerequisites include: German 102 or 202, or their equivalents. The learning goals are: to provide students the benefits of a full language immersion program, to enable students to use their classroom training to engage their language skills and host culture for authentic communicative purposes, and to apply their academic knowledge in a non-academic setting off campus.
Program Dates: May 2-May 31, 2008
Program Leader: Michelle Mattson
Cost: Cost is largely contingent on student enrollment. If the cost should exceed what can reasonably be charged for the program, the Maymest in Bremen will be cancelled.
