Young scholars—some of them quite young—were in abundance on the Rhodes campus as the spring semester drew to a close. The fourth annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Symposium, which gives Rhodes students and many community partners a platform to present special projects, filled several venues.

A new event this year was a ceremony in honor of nearly 200 Memphis City Schools elementary students who improved their grades from failing to B averages. The program was presented by Comrades N Community, a youth inspirational program. Participating schools were Gordon, Guthrie, Lester, Springdale (a Rhodes Adopt-A-School) and Vollentine.

Several city officials and community members spoke at the event. Rhodes student Josh Jefferies ’07 and the members of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority helped with the entertainment.
