Valerie Nollan Presents Rachmaninoff Research at University of Kentucky

Dr. Valerie Nollan of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, recently was a guest of the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference at the University of Kentucky where she made presentations associated with her research on Sergei Rachmaninoff. She gave a poetry reading of her chapbook In Search of Rachmaninoff, a recital, and a lecture.
In the recital, professor Nollan performed two piano pieces by Rachmaninoff and also sang two of his art songs. She was accompanied by a doctoral candidate in music at the University of Kentucky. Professors Carole Blankenship and Kate Stimson of the Rhodes Department of Music helped to prepare her for the piano and voice recital.
Her lecture was titled "Why a Post-Hagiographic Biography of Rachmaninoff is Needed."
