First Year Student to Publish Article in International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Publication Date: 4/25/2007

Laura Hofto, a first year student who began chemistry research this year, has had her manuscript, "Modeling Intercalation Through the Sandwich-Type Interactions Between Benzene and Fourteen Polyaromatic Molecules: DFT and Ab Initio Results," accepted for publication in the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry.

The article also includes the research of Rhodes junior Karina Van Sickle. This work describes a model for predicting how molecules wedge themselves into DNA and thus cause cancer; these same molecules are also used in chemotherapy.
In addition to having her manuscript accepted, Hofto will present her work in the fall of 2007 at the Complife conference in the Netherlands.
