Warm cheers from Rhodes students helped to curtail chilly temperatures during the fifth annual St. Jude Marathon held in Memphis on December 2. Thousands from all over the country and world hit the streets to benefit St. Jude Children′s Research Hospital. Rhodes faculty, staff and students staffed water and aid stations for the runners.

History professor Frank Buscher expresses gratitude to the many friends and colleagues who sponsored his participation through their pledges to the hospital. Other runners from Rhodes who participated include history professor Michael LaRosa and registrar Glenn Munson. Student runners include Jerrod Anderson ‘07, Elizabeth Story ‘07 and Kate Snider ‘07.

Throughout the year, selected Rhodes students conduct research with St. Jude faculty mentors through the St. Jude Summer Plus Program. Research areas include behavioral medicine, biochemistry, genetics and tumor cell biology, hematology-oncology, infectious diseases, molecular biotechnology, molecular pharmacology, pathology, pharmaceutical sciences, radiological sciences, and structural biology.
