Rhodes Women Athletes Celebrate Banner Week
Publication Date: 11/6/2006
The Rhodes Lynx enjoyed a week of breaking records, thrashing opponents, and celebrating firsts.
The women’s swim team started things off by shattering three school records at a meet in Little Rock. First-years Jackie Ward, Larkin Accinelli and Carson Johnson, and junior Jazmin Miller bested the previous school record for the 200 medley relay by a stunning four seconds. Accinelli also broke the standing time in the 100 breaststroke, while sophomore Kim Green improved on her previous school record by 9 seconds in the 1000 freestyle.
At home, the Lynx field hockey team defeated Centre to win their second conference championship in 3 years. Several Lynx were honored by the SCAC for stellar campaigns. Senior Hilary Mast was named the 2006 SCAC Field Hockey Offensive Co-Player-of-the-Year, first-year Kristen Lee was awarded the SCAC Field Hockey Newcomer-of-the-Year, and Elizabeth Erny and Leigh Clasby were named to the 2006 All-SCAC Field Hockey Team.
Not to be outdone, the Rhodes women’s soccer team closed their season by slaying Oglethorpe 7-0 in Atlanta, finishing with an overall record of 14-3-2, the best in over ten years.
Adding to the string of successes, the Lynx volleyball team made history by being the first ever at Rhodes to be selected to play in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. Defeating Hendrix, Millsaps, Southwestern and Austin College on their way to a 2nd place finish in the SCAC, the Lynx will travel to Washington University to begin tournament play later this week.
Congrats to all of these athletes and coaches. Go Lynx!
