Rhodes Makes CosmoGIRL’s Best Colleges

Publication Date: 10/3/2006

For the second year in a row, Rhodes College is included in CosmoGIRL!’s annual “50 Best Colleges” guide in partnership with the Princeton Review. The magazine reaches 7.5 million young readers ages 16-23 and released the guide in its October issue. It also selected Rhodes as one of the top picks for having the “Nicest Dorms.”

In selecting the best colleges, the magazine looked for schools with small class sizes, prominent female faculty, strong women’s sports teams, career centers that excel at internship and job placement, and leadership opportunities in campus clubs and activities.

Rhodes provides a myriad of resources and programs for students to broaden their college experiences and to promote personal and professional growth including study abroad, internship and research opportunities. Science students in the Rhodes CARES program, for example, conduct research alongside world-renowned professionals at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Some of the activities specifically addressing the experiences, interests, and perspectives of Rhodes women include varsity sports, sororities, the Rhodes Women’s Chorus, the performing group Lipstick on Your Collar, and the Women’s Studies program. Rhodes also has a student-run Women’s Center as well as  a chapter of Iota Iota Iota national honor society promoting research in social problems affecting women.
