Share Your News

The Communications Office manages several communication vehicles for the Rhodes community to share news, both internally with the rest of the campus community and externally with audiences beyond campus.

Please note that e-mails sent to broad campus audiences (like all Faculty and Staff) do not guarantee news and events will be included in online calendars, news releases, Rhodes.edu, or RHODES Magazine.

Therefore, to make certain that your information is reviewed for the vehicle you desire, please follow these guidelines:

News Releases

If you have a news or event item that should be publicized beyond the campus community by way of a news release contact news@rhodes.edu. News releases are typically reserved for news and events that not only include the Rhodes campus but also extend beyond the Rhodes campus. Please submit items at least 3 weeks in advance to allow adequate time for follow-up and distribution.

Rhodes.edu Calendars

The Rhodes.edu calendar lists public events that have been entered into the Event Management System (EMS). In order to publicize an event to the calendar, use the “Publicity” tab in the EMS. Select the box for “List this event on the Public Calendar” and assign a category to the event. If your event is to be featured on the home page, email a photo and the title of your event to webrequest@rhodes.edu.

You must add your event into the EMS in order to publicize it, regardless of whether the event takes place on campus. If details about the event (such as location, date or time) change, you will be responsible for making updates in the EMS. If you have questions regarding any aspect of the events calendar, contact the Scheduling & Events Office at x3888.

Rhodes.edu Content

To request Web content changes for Rhodes.edu, request help with the RedDot content management system or ask any other web site-related questions, email webrequest@rhodes.edu. Please include the full Web address of any specific pages pertaining to your message. All Rhodes.edu content is reviewed and approved prior to publication, so please send your request at least two weeks prior to your desired publication date.

RHODES Magazine

RHODES, the quarterly alumni magazine of Rhodes College, contains news and features of alumni, faculty, students and friends of the college. It is distributed by mail and at various pick-up points across campus in fall, winter, spring and summer. While issues of RHODES are planned one year ahead, the schedule is somewhat flexible to accommodate timely articles. Submit story ideas by e-mailing magazine@rhodes.edu, or call the editor, 843-3544.

Off-campus Publications / Contacting the Media

Before any contact is made with newspapers, television or radio stations, student organizations are required to contact the Office of Communications at 843-3875. The office staff can be of assistance in identifying appropriate media outlets, reviewing press releases and ensuring they get to the right staff contact person. Members of the press are not allowed on campus without approval of the Office of Communications.

Other Ways to Get the Word Out

There are also several news communication vehicles that are not managed by the Communications Office, such as:

Signs on Campus

Campus signage must be approved by Student Affairs. The name of the organization responsible for posting must appear on the poster material. Student organizations must adhere to the guidelines for "Posting Signs" in the Student Handbook.

Sou’wester

The Sou’wester is the weekly student newspaper of the college. Contact the Editor-in-Chief for submission information at thesouwester@gmail.com. The paper comes out most Wednesdays, so announcements should be received by Sunday night. If a last-minute announcement is necessary, come by the Publication Center on the second floor of Briggs on Tuesday night and talk with the editorial staff personally.
