First Time Student Leaders
Some Helpful Hints for Getting Started as a Student Leader:
- Don’t be afraid!
- Make use of available resources: administrators, your advisor, former student leaders, files, etc.
- Ensure that information is readily available to your members and peers.
- Be social with other student leaders inside and outside the group.
- Keep an eye out for other student leaders and lend a hand when necessary. They may be available to help later when you need it.

- Make the most of your “honeymoon period.” It’s the best time to lay the groundwork, still make mistakes and learn.
- Maintain your perspective: keep the big picture in mind and don’t let anyone get you down.
