ESL Orientation Program
NEW FOR FALL 2012:
We are currently accepting registrations for the 2012 ESL (English as a Second Language) Program at Rhodes College. The program will be offered if there is suitable demand. Your registration form and deposit should be recieved in our office no later than June 1, 2012.
Expect an academically intense, and FUN, three weeks on our Pre-Term ESL program. Aside from the traditional class structure, students will experience on-site learning through excursions to museums and sites of cultural interest. The focus of the program is Memphis’ musical history, featuring the musical style and history of blues, jazz, and rock n’ roll. Sites usually visited: Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, Delta Blues Museum (in Clarksdale, Mississippi), Sun Studio, Beale Street, and the Stax Museum.
Elements of the ESL program include class time, research on site and in our library, film viewings, and a final project: an academic, college-level research paper and presentation designed to prepare you for your first semester of academic, collegiate-level research writing and presenting. The conclusion of the Pre-Term ESL program coinsides exactly with the beginning of the International Student Orientation. At that time, all incoming international students will arrive and begin to get to know Rhodes and Memphis.
