Walking Loudly

One tradition of service at Rhodes has emerged from a gift of mentor Mickey Babcock ’98.

As her parting gift upon her graduation, Mickey presented a group of service-minded students with a pair of red high top Converse shoes. She told them her personal motto which was to “Walk Loudly” in everything they do.

Mickey wore her shoes almost everywhere she went and finally across the stage at her commencement.

Today the tradition has been embraced by many service groups including the Bonner Scholars. The “Walk Loudly” slogan has stuck and represents the philosophy of making a difference, confronting problems, and finding passion.
