The Rhodes Summer Service Fellowship

Get ready for an intensive, nine week summer experience that challenges you to engage in significant community projects - either those identified by a community organization or something you dream about having time to accomplish – while receiving F11 credit. By choosing your work you will have the opportunity to use your skills and talents to make a difference and pursue your passions. Working full-time with community organizations will give you the insider’s view about how they operate. And, you will be among a group of fifteen dedicated, passionate Summer Service Fellows who live together and participate in group programs that will help you learn even more about Memphis, service, yourself, and ways to tackle challenges you encounter.

What do you care about?

The Summer Service Fellowship is an opportunity for you to work on community issues in Memphis such as education, health care, global warming, homelessness, etc. You may already have connections with a Memphis organization or you may want to explore other local opportunities. If you have an idea or are unsure about which non-profit to approach:

  • View a list of past Fellowship projects.
  • Contact community organizations to find out more about volunteering.
  • Set up a meeting to discuss ideas with Program Director, Sandi George Tracy by contacting x3800 or RSA Emily Sellers at selea@rhodes.edu.

You should set up times to meet with each of the non-profits that you think would be a good partner for your Summer Service Fellowship. You should prepare for these meetings as you would for a professional interview. Provide the organization wit the application’s Non-Profit Endorsement Form. Please ensure this returned by February 23 at 5pm to Career Services in Burrow Hall. Please keep in mind that this can be a lengthy process, so start as soon as possible.
