Program Basics

Course Title: IS 265: Tianjin, China Summer Program

Course Description: The Tianjin, China Summer Program provides students with an opportunity to study Chinese language, culture and politics by fully immersing themselves in a non-Western setting.  The program, which is based on the campus of Tianjin Normal University (TNU), is open to all Rhodes students, including graduating seniors, regardless of their prior familiarity with Chinese language.  Students will enroll in Chinese language classes at TNU. In addition to language training, Prof. Ceccoli will lead an afternoon course entitled, “China and Its Role in the Modern World,” which will combine lecture and discussion. Students will explore Tianjin as well as participate in weekend visits to Beijing and to the Great Wall.  Prof. Han Li will lead a week-long excursion to the southern Chinese cities of Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Hangzhou.

Program Cost Estimate: $2500-$4000 (depending on total number of participants)  includes tuition, room, books,  and transportation and lodging on excursions
