Publication Date: 10/19/2009
Rhodes students--Matthew Isom ’11, Tierney Jackson ’10, Jonathan Mervine ’11, Daniel Smith ’11 and Brian Yuan ’11--are preparing for regionals of the 34th annual Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest.
Sponsored by IBM, the contest has been dubbed the “Battle of the Brains.” Rhodes will compete October 24 at Murray State University.
Teams of three students will be challenged to use their programming skills and rely on their mental endurance to solve complex, real world problems under a five-hour deadline. Tackling these problems is equivalent to completing a semester’s worth of computer programming in one afternoon!
The team that solves the most problems correctly in the least amount of time will win a spot to compete in the final competition to be held in China in the spring.
