Psychology Major To Lead CASA Training Event

Rhodes student Stephen Spainhour ’11, who is an intern for CASA (Court Apppointed Special Advocates) of Memphis, will be the presenter at the organization’s “31 Flavors of Diversity” training event.
The event, designed for CASA volunteers, will take place on September 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Porter Leath’ s Shainberg Room located at 868 N. Manassas. Ice cream will be served.
The event is designed to equip volunteers with the skills needed to holistically perform their roles and to enhance their communication abilities as they prepare to interact with a variety of people during their casework.
Spainhour, who is a psychology major, will discuss aspects of community and individual psychology, cultural competence, and will hold a progressive discussion about diversity and how it can be used as a strength to better an individual’s experience with CASA.
