A symposium on White House domestic policymaking organized and moderated by Rhodes professor Mike Nelson will be shown on CSPAN over the holiday weekend. The schedule is:

  • Part 1-Friday, July 3 at 7pm CDT
  • Part 2-Saturday, July 4 at 9 am CDT
  • Part 3-Sunday, July 5 at 3:25pm CDT

The symposium, which was hosted by the University of Virginia’s Miller Center of Public Affairs, featured policy makers from every administration since Richard Nixon. Nelson, the Fulmer Professor of Political Science at Rhodes, is also a Non- resident Senior Fellow at the Miller Center.

Panelists included James Cannon III who advised President  Ford; Bertram Carp and Stuart Eizenstat who served on President Carter’s domestic policy staff; Nixon adviser Egil Krogh; James Pinkerton who worked for both Presidents Regan and George H.W. Bush; Bruce Reed, President Clinton’s chief domestic policy adviser; and Margaret Spellings, Secretary of Education under President George Bush.
