Darlene Brooks Recognized By Memphis Area Library Council

Rhodes Library Director Darlene Brooks has been chosen as the 2009 recipient of the Award of Excellence presented by the Memphis Area Library Council. She will be honored April 16 at the Memphis Public Library.

This award is presented annually to a library staff member in the greater Memphis area who has demonstrated dedication to the profession, notable academic and professional accomplishments, contributed to professional organizations, and been involved in community activities.

Brooks holds B.A. and M.L.I.S. degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Before coming to Rhodes in 2000 as Information Services and Electronic Resources Librarian, she was Library Director at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.  and has worked in the academic library field for more than 22 years.

In 2007, she received Rhodes’ Outstanding Administrator Award recognizing her dedicated service to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the library. She became Library Director in 2008.

Brooks has been secretary to the Memphis Area Library Council for six years, and she also is a Memphis Literacy Council Board member.
