Publication Date: 10/17/2008
Seven out of Eight. That’s how many of Charlaine Harris’ books in her Southern Vampire Mysteries series were simultaneously listed on the New York Times Best Seller list published October 3. Harris is a 1973 Rhodes graduate.
The Commercial Appeal quotes the Times Book Review editor as saying, “I′ve checked with the people who compile our best-seller lists and they believe very strongly that this is the first time an author has had seven books on the Times Best Seller list.”
In the October 16th CA article, Harris credits her alma mater with helping her find her literary voice. Her book series chronicles a telepathic barmaid named Sookie Stackhouse who solves mysteries involving vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the night. HBO’s “True Blood” is based on the series.
