Disability Awareness Events Held This Week

October is National Disability Awareness Month. Rhodes’ Student Disability Services will sponsor a Disability Awareness Week to promote disability-related information and awareness in the campus community. For more information about any of the programs below, please contact Student Disability Services at 843-3994. Events are open to all Rhodes community members.

Concert by Blind Mississippi Morris
Blind since of the age 4, this bluesman has been rated one of the top 10 harmonica players in the world by Bluzharp Magazine. The concert is free; food will be available for purchase.

Understanding Hidden Disabilities
Learn about issues specific to hidden disabilities such as learning disorders, attention deficit disorders, psychiatric disorders, chronic health impairments and sensory impairments. Refreshments provided.

Learn about career resources and opportunities for students with disabilities.

Learn about assistive technology resources at Rhodes and view demonstrations of the most frequently used software and devices.

ADA Amendment Act 2008: Impact on Higher Education
Attend this audio-conference led by Dr. L. Scott Lissner, leading disability expert from Ohio State University, on the recent Congressional Reset of the Americans with Disabilities Act and implications for higher education.
