Shankman to Coach USA Open Track and Field Team at 2009 World Maccabiah Games

Robert Shankman, Head Cross Country and Track Coach at Rhodes, will coach the USA Open Track and Field Team at the 18th World Maccabiah Games scheduled for July 2009. Over 9,000 of the world’s best Jewish athletes from six continents and over 60 countries will compete at the games to be held in Israel.

In his 19th year at Rhodes, Shankman is one of the most successful coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III Southeast Region. In cross country, he has coached 14 individual national qualifiers, while his teams have qualified three times for the National Championship Meet. In track and field, he has coached 37 national qualifiers and 10 NCAA All-Americans. 

Shankman also has been voted SCAC Coach-of-the-Year by his peers 16 times in cross country and eight times in track. The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honored Shankman with Regional Coach of the Year awards in 2002 for women’s cross country, in 2003 for women’s outdoor track, and in 2007 for men’s cross country.  Shankman currently serves as the U.S. Track Coaches Association regional representative for cross country.
